    In addition, Chinese companies continue to participate in the construction of huge projects critical to the Israeli economy.

  • I didn't mean to call you out. What I wanted to say is that although the system may be imperfect, it is better than in dictatorial regimes celebrated by Novara Media.

    This is a textbook example of selection bias by a propaganda medium. They single out 1 measure out of 34, publish "the West bad" tonality, and then hail autocratic systems like the one in China as the solution, although the welfare system and labour rights there are catastrophically worse. This is an essential part of disinformation warfare.

    'They' use a democratic system which means that usually they are stuck with the "dumbfuck" until the next election. Very much unlike in dictatorships where they are stuck with the "dumbfuck" for much longer while any critique similar to what we read here would be harshly punished as 'they' have no say.

  • There is a community here on Lemmy that tries to normalize biased media that favour China and other autocratic systems.

    I don't support this German move, but in addition to the end to phone-based sick notes, the German government introduced another 33 measures, including a €10 billion in income tax relief targeted at lower and middle-income earners. But Novara Media takes a single measure out of 34. This is a textbook case of selection bias.

    There is nothing wrong with critique, but there are good sources that explain the entire German package in more depth, and many of them are easier accessible as they aren't hiding behind Cloudflare as Novara Media does if I may say so.

    The numbers are fine, and to a large part they even come from the Chinese government.

    Coal should “play an important underpinning and balancing role” in China for years to come, China's National Development and Reform Commission said a year ago.

    One result of this is that coal power development is becoming more geographically concentrated: In 2018, the top ten countries accounted for 83% of global coal capacity under development; by 2025, that share had risen to 97%. China and India alone comprise nearly 90% of coal power developments..

    In 2025, China's new coal power installations reach 18-year high.

    It’s 15th five-year plan says that China’s goals for non-fossil energy additions would see the country’s annual green energy additions fall by more than half compared to the 14th five-year plan. At the same time, fossil fuel energy consumption will increase by 8-10%. This will reverse the development in the last five years.

    No country is on track to reach its climate goals, but China is among the worst in the long-term.

    This is a simple fact, and the linked article explains this and the entire propaganda around the issue in more depth.

    China is also the world’s largest coal mine methane (CMM) emitter, accounting for 76% of global CMM emissions in 2023. Despite this, independent estimates suggest actual emissions may be higher than officially reported figures.

    (But the headline is promising, unfortunately also highly misleading.)

    I wrote in another thread already that China's emissions rose this century from less then 4 billion tons to more than 13 billions.

    What makes the situation worse is that emissions in China are set to rise: Even the Chinese Communist Party's 15th five-year plan says that China’s goals for non-fossil energy additions would see China’s annual green energy additions fall by more than half compared to the 14th five-year plan. At the same time, fossil fuel energy consumption will increase by 8-10%.

    The agreement gave Chinese officials some input on the appointment of bishops. However, its contents were never fully disclosed to the public. Beijing insists that the state must approve the appointment of bishops in China, running contrary to the Catholic Church's insistence that it is a papal decision. China has some 10 million Catholics.

    These are just two examples of 'double standard' by this person.

  • Yeah, China has a long tradition in 'supporting' Sudan and its government (Sudan was the first African country to recognize the People's Republic of China in 1959). In the 2000s Beijing even sent weapons during the Darfur crisis, as one report back then says (opens pdf):

    The genocide in Darfur is not an unknown problem to those in power in China. However, it is clear the Chinese government will do whatever it takes to support and maintain China’s economic growth. Because the Chinese government is focused on this one goal, it is more willing to turn a blind eye to corruption and oppression within the Sudanese regime.
