  • Ed Husic has been making some noise recently (https://aussie.zone/post/33103714). These sanctions are probably intended to allow Wong to claim they're doing something (they're not).

  • The new diplomatic penalties against four settler farming outposts and three individuals

"The individuals and entities sanctioned today have undermined Israel's own security and its standing in the world and harmed the interests of the Israeli people.

"Australia's imposition of sanctions against them reflects our commitment to Israel and Palestine's security and future."

    What a fucking joke. Pathetic.

  • community-based investigation

an independent inquiry into the Aukus defence pact, launched by a group of Labor veterans and public figures

the new inquiry – supported by trade unions and non-profit organisations

the inquiry, convened under the auspices of the Australian Peace and Security Forum.

It's not a government inquiry, it's a community and civil society initiative. Its impact will largely come from the news and public engagement it can generate, and picking someone famous to lead it will help with that.

  • How can we better protect people like this woman with acute mental illness?

I'd recommend everyone take a 'mental health first aid' course if you can. It gives you the tools to understand and de-escalate situations where people are experiencing psychosis without resorting to calling the cops.

  • No personnel were harmed in the incident, the company said on social media, calling the explosion an ‘anomaly’

    Paging @SenatorCollins@aussie.zone

  • Wow, it's been a long time since I've thought of that show! All episodes can be found on YouTube, by the way.

  • @arbilp3@aussie.zone I hope this fits the type of content you're looking for in this community!

By the way, it might be a good idea to add some of the guidelines and examples you gave in the first post (https://aussie.zone/post/33070462) into the sidebar of the community.

  • Its a bit longer, but worth the time. There's significant discussion of the Australian media throughout, particularly in the back half.

  • Just throwing some name ideas out there. More just a grab-bag of words than anything I'm necessarily proposing, but hopefully they might give you some ideas:

    • Community Support
    • Care Community
    • Helping Hand(s)
    • Life Support (😆 I'm kind of joking but it also kind of works)
    • Life Guide
    • Life Lab
    • Life Workshop
    • Lifecraft
    • Thriving
  • Is there any specific food you recommend to use it with?

Toast, with butter, and not too much! Melt some cheese over the top is good too!

  • And if you absolutely have to go to a match, you could go to one of the matches in Canada, which would avoid both problems!

  • My hunch is that numbers will be down for geopolitical reasons

There's some reporting to indicate that numbers could be subdued: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn0p2532xn4o

The Wanderstay is a mile on foot from the Houston fan zone and a short drive from the stadium hosting Houston's matches. It is currently at 45% capacity for the period of the tournament, Mathis told the BBC, compared with 70% for the same time last year.

Mathis blamed the "political climate" during US President Donald Trump's second term in office, in particular immigration raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in cities across the country.

She also pointed to the rising cost of living in the wake of the US-Israel war in Iran, as well as the "phenomenally" expensive tickets to World Cup matches.

  • TISM still exist?

They were inactive 2004-2022, so it's a reasonable question!
