  • 5th amendment covers testimonial evidence. This would be more of a 4th amendment thing, though because a judge would order it due to prior convictions, you’d probably have an uphill battle. A state can revoke a person’s license. Allowing them continued access with stipulations seems like a compromise that some would accept.

  • I can maybe see a garage, but ruining your paint? Where do you get this paint, how much does it cost, do you “do it right” by properly prepping and masking, how do you maintain this finish, and do you truly not care about resale value?

I’m sure somebody has done this somewhere, but I can’t imagine it looks better than matte-black rattlecanned shitbox. Nobody really wants to be driving around in that.

  • Think like a manager:

    • Offer employees an AI token budget that’s use or lose. Don’t make any promises on reimbursement and stay vague about how high users can obtain more tokens. You don’t want wasted token usage. More on that later
    • Increase workloads/KPI/widget production quota by how much change you can find around some vending machines. Sneak in monitoring of employee user behavior and interactions with systems and programs if you don’t already have something in place
    • Link AI assistance to the higher requirements by saying things like “We’re investing in our workforce by providing productivity tools”
    • Fire those at/below new requirements while praising those who are left behind
    • Throw a pizza party and pocket some of the savings from firing a third of your team. Invest in a mini fridge for the top performer.
    • Train new AI on the user behavior analytics you’ve been secretly been collecting and use it to replace the next lower performing third of the team. Keep on the higher performers and give them a small raise so they speak positively about the company and so you have somebody to fix the inevitable problems
    • Profit
  • If there’s some collusion, sure, but you’d have to find a government body with the will and teeth to prosecute.

Nothing really against charging whatever you feel like outside of things like certain supplies during disasters. It’s shitty

  • I can’t wait until we unlock custom AI training micro transactions where you can influence what a ChatGPT or Copilot user sees for the low low fee of $15 per KB of supplied data plus $.01 per token referenced.

  • You can’t collect per diem or get credit card points from a virtual conference though. Think of their bank accounts!

  • I miss ppb. It was like a modern day rickroll but not in any way unexpected from hexbear

  • Servicing a gun with a round in the chamber is negligent unless you’re in active combat.

There’s no context provided, but I can’t see any situation where you service a loaded firearm and point it at your thigh.

  • I took the test and I’m not particularly surprised at my result.

I’m strongly of the opinion that a lot of people simply do not have the bandwidth to be deeply involved in politics, even if it is in their best interests. We have so many people in the US drowning in debt, stress, unresolved mental health crises, and uncertainty about how they can afford the next big repair on their house/appliances/car/body that they do not have the luxury of spending time and energy advocating for the changes that would improve their lives.

I think of it like the airplane oxygen masks - you need to secure your own before you help others. It’s hard to expect people to organize and push for monumental change when they are a paycheck or two away from homelessness. I don’t see an easy way forward unless a lot of people are willing to sacrifice.

  • Nobody is willing to take on the risk to help their neighbors 🤷🏻‍♀️

If I had an empty home that I was paying a mortgage on, I’m not sure the bank or insurance company would be too happy with that either, which doesn’t help.

Some systemic change would be required

  • Both things can be true though. Do you not feel sympathy for anybody who loses out on a passion project or has their “thing” cut short because others aren’t as fortunate? That can be extrapolated about 8 billion ways to the poorest person on earth.

  • I have the same feelings. I’m leaning towards preferring no cameras though. Data is cheap to store and never* gets deleted. Bad actors can comb through that information after the fact and use it for whatever purposes they want, even if it was initially taken/given with good intentions. Walking by a Ring camera now gets a mandatory consent-free facial scanning attempt. These cameras were not initially sold with this being a feature set. Who knows what bullshit they will be used for down the line

  • I’d imagine being underaged and unable to consent makes it rape

  • I need to find a spell scroll of this

  • Costs money to rip and replace existing infrastructure. Counties and cities with less income can’t afford to make such drastic changes unless it’s a higher priority than the other 25 things that need funding

  • For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t be in 3rd gear at 20mph in a modern turbocharged car.

For my car, 20mph is roughly 2500pm in 2nd and 1700rpm in 3rd. I don’t like to live below 2000rpm because I don’t get spooled up that low.

  • I get around this by being unable to read my own writing

  • Agree. TSA could be doing more meaningful work for the amount spent
