    You could give the windows an emissive texture, if you want to make it look more "realistic" or so. And add some fog to the scene. It's expensive to render, but may make it look nicer. Also check how to give the lights a "glow" around them.

    Arguably, approaches to optimisation problems such as AlphaFold are inherently biased and not really suited for real science. While other approaches take longer, their biases can at least be described. It doesn't help if AlphaFold is super fast, but then you don't really know if you can trust it's output. It's just like ChatGPT which is often correct, but that doesn't help if you never know when it is correct. However, with protein folding at least you can compare solutions and easily see which is better, because computing the potential energy of an existing solution is relatively simple. The hard part is to find a good solution.

    Anyways, AlphaFold surely has its uses, and surely works well for proteins that fold in some sort of "standard" way, similar to the proteins in the training data set.

  • We actually decided against buying a home, because we are still young and our family is still growing, so we don't know what we need in ten years from now. Also, we know that our needs will change once the kids have moved out, so getting something permanent (or at least less flexible) doesn't make sense right now. Of course, a bought home can also be sold again so it's not completely permanent, but it's much more easy to switch to a different rental. And then, it seems like ETFs are a potentially better investment than real estate right now, so why put money into real estate?

    All that being said, we are living in a "right to dwell" system right now that is different from rental in that you can't be evicted as long as you pay rent. So the owner of the building can't just throw you out for other reasons. So it's different from a normal rental where the landlord basically can make up all kinds of reasons to get you out.
