  • It was just an easy system to attack, and difficult to justify. I thought it sounded good.

  • Tech blogs have been doing this for years. I get it, they cater to people who block ads. I block ads. But now I just assume their reviews and coverage is all sponsored. Because you don’t really know.

  • So is Fallout 4's Dogmeat... sort of. The dog is established as male in the game, but they used a female dog (named River) to do the motion capture.

For people who like dogs, the behind-the-scenes stuff on Dogmeat is pretty entertaining.

  • Well, for one, this is in the iOS 27 public beta (though, I started with the developer beta in July). So it's not in the public software right now.

Siri being on means the keyboard doesn't display the three suggestions at the top, so if the keyboard hallucinates some other word you typed (this is especially important with trace typing), you don't have the option to pick an alternative. Apple wants you to talk to type, but sometimes I type because I don't want everyone around me knowing what I'm texting.

It's a global setting, and can't be set per app, but Siri can be disabled and enabled in a second or less. There's probably a way to set up a shortcut to do it.

  • It’s a troll comm. Shame they’re so quick to ban. They amuse me. I don’t interact with them because I want to see their trolling. Or rather, I don’t mind.

Edit: Just tried searching for it, it doesn't come up. Maybe they blocked me? Weird because I never interacted with them (AFAIK). Not too bothered, I think it's a case of the trash taking itself out, if true. I just didn't mind them so much. Oh well.

Though, I am a bit annoyed with the Linux crowd coming into every discussion saying "just install Linux!". If I had a PC, I would... but I have a Mac, and Linux on ARM64 is getting there, but I don't think it's quite there just yet. And I like what I have. I would like to get an old HP/Dell at some point and run a Linux server, though. I think that would be fun. But as a daily driver? Meh. I could, I just don't want to.

  • Look into “the small web”. You can get a site that is kinda like a MySpace profile, but you have more control.

  • Same reason religions demand you tithe but refuse to pay taxes, even though they don’t deny Christ said, “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and render unto God what is God’s,” which is to say, fulfil your obligations to the government before fulfilling your obligations to God.

  • At least something is. I thought Seagate drives were good for stopping spinning on their own, typically right after the warranty is up.

  • Wild. It almost should be, because Adolf Hitler was a singularly evil man and what he did should be considered without compare. It was that bad.

That said, it should never be a criminal offence to call out genocide for what it is. The US is trying to criminalise the very opposition to fascism — what many of their grandparents did when they fought in WWII. It should never be a crime to peacefully protest.

  • I have an XSX, but I hate changing discs. I wish they’d just implement that feature where as long as no other Xbox user has inserted your disc, you have a revocable digital entitlement to play without the disc.

  • Oh, my bad. I’ve never needed to disable Siri before and I never heard it was required for CarPlay

  • Sounds like they’re facilitating and profiting from fraud.

  • Nope, silence only helps the oppressor

  • It’s easy to enable again and I don’t have to get back in line. After the first developer beta, the wait was 13 days unless you were an influencer — some social media types got it early to hype it up. Regular users who signed up the first day had to wait almost 2 weeks though. I can disable it, get the old typing back, enable it and get CarPlay back, no time lost.

  • I seem to be resetting it every month or two. But it’s been hallucinating auto corrections for years now.

  • Yeah, I mean that was the generation where games really started to require Internet and/or Day One updates to play. Before that, online was really optional.

Sure, some newer games are fully contained on the disc and 1.0 is playable offline, but from then, more and more weren’t.

iOS 27 is at war with itself

  • Voting doesn’t really do anything on Lemmy though.

Also, one of the greatest shortcomings of the ego is to view ourselves by what we consider to be our greatest virtue, but to judge others by what we perceive to be their greatest mistake. It’s built-in bullshit superiority and condescension. The way you beat it is by both realising that we all have faults, and that we all mean well.

  • And the physical discs aren’t the problem. People billing it down to that means the problem won’t get solved. Might as well tell Sony they don’t care about the real issue. Since PS4/XB1, games have basically required Internet to play. If the game is delisted, it still won’t play even if you have the disc. Delisting is the real problem. Stopping sales of the game isn’t fine, but it’s forgivable. But let people who own it play it in perpetuity. Or refund their money.

  • So that’s weird, Xbox striking at why people use Windows over Linux or Macs. Though Linux has Proton. Mac users, I figure, just have an Xbox or PlayStation. Nobody buys a Mac for gaming.
