  • Redlib is good as a front-end for reddit without needing to sign in, I use the catsarch instance normally but there's a few public instances or you can self-host it.

  • I've been both on different uni projects. Far better being the smart one in a group of idiots and just banging out the work without interference for a good grade. Being the idiot on the smart team was torture.

  • No appointments yet but sacking Reed and Kyle would indicate he is going to clear out some of the more toxic boys club MPs that Starmer was fond of. Peter Kyle in particular is a great sacking, he's the one that called the police because a constituent emailed him about Palestine and he compared anyone who opposes online age verification to Jimmy Saville.

  • I think a lot of the supermarkets have voluntarily IDed energy drinks for quite a while now, so I guess this just means any corner shops or petrol stations that haven't been doing it will need to start

  • That was by far the best of the 4½ American seasons they've done, they've really nailed the writing of the challenges now so we get to see lots of cool places along the way

I always root for Badam but it was such bad luck for Sam and Amy this time, and it's been two full years since he last won a season

  • If we're talking about the Good Friday Agreement, I think nationalists probably got more from it, but that's only because the nationalist community were effectively second-class citizens beforehand. Unionists still maintained a lot of dominance in Northern Ireland, but they had to cede total control of a (gerrymandered) parliament to a mandatory coalition between the largest nationalist and unionist parties and the renaming of institutions like the RUC into the PSNI. Both sides had to agree that Northern Ireland's constitutional status could change, but only via referendum. The IRA had to disarm and disband (although splinter groups still exist), while no loyalist paramilitaries had to do the same. Hardly anyone from the British army or the RUC was charged for the collusion or the extrajudicial killing of civilians. You can tell who felt they got the better deal by the fact that nationalists overwhelmingly voted in favour of the deal, while unionists were more divided.

If it's the Anglo-Irish treaty that created the Irish Free State, it was likely the British that got the better deal. The treaty was controversial and led to a civil war in Ireland over its terms, it meant Ireland lost 6 of its 32 counties which became Northern Ireland, and the country wasn't allowed to become a republic like they had wanted.

  • I know they said ages ago that they no longer do the taskmaster-style workarounds due to the audience backlash from the likes of "touch an animal" being completed by Sam touching Ben and Adam. But I would have loved it if they'd done something like buying an inflatable dinghy and just writing "water taxi" on it.

  • Adam's complete indignation over the idea that a boat would appear within 20 minutes for so cheap might have been my favourite part of this episode.

And it feels poetic that the first bit of luck for Sam in about 3 episodes was him and Amy successfully dying

  • I'm a bit frightened of geese but still felt bad for them in the park near where we used to live, because kids would chase after them and the parents in that town would encourage it and laugh along. They only really fought back if they had goslings to protect

  • Four toddlers died in France from hyperthermia

  • That Al Carns stuff they link to is just bizarre. "Make everything 10% better" is not a policy. And him talking about amending the legacy act to protect soldiers from being prosecuted for war crimes is sure one quick way to destroy friendly relations with Ireland after they've slowly improved over the past two years. Saying it's stuff they were "cleared for years ago" puts him well to the right of even David Cameron who apologised for the British army's actions on Bloody Sunday. I don't understand the establishment media's obsession with glazing him constantly, he's clearly a bit dim and very dangerous to put in power.

  • Not yet, but the steam hardware page has just been updated to say the emails will go out "within a day" so hopefully it won't be much of a wait

  • There seems to be a mix of briefings going out suggesting Burnham will make Miliband the chancellor, keep Reeves to appease the bond markets, or tack further right and appoint Mahmood. It will be the first real signal of which version of Burnham we're getting I guess.

  • Now is the perfect time to be testing his credentials, before a leadership contest gets underway. That's the whole point, so party members and MPs can choose who best represents them. He keeps u-turning on everything and he's veered towards the right during this campaign quite a lot, including going back on trans rights and endorsing the home secretary's immigration reforms. I don't think left-wing Labour members should just roll over and take it, especially anyone from the groups he's willing to throw under the bus to gain power.

  • Between the Canadian independence PSA, Amy's mini-game of trying to learn anything about Sam, Ben and Adam interrupting that couple's date on the Mississippi and Ben falling over 5 times, I think this is the best opening episode they've done for a series yet

  • The hosts on Sky News were discussing their "legitimate concerns" about immigration while a live stream of minorities being burnt out of their homes played in the background which was one of the most disgusting things I've seen. Like there was a mum and toddler being rescued from a burning building by the fire brigade and these fucks just want to see how justifiable they can make all of this. Tonight has been one of the most sickening bouts of rioting in the city since the peace process began (like it's this or the time they threw piss and other objects at eight year old school girls just for being Catholic) but it happens every summer, the target of hatred has just moved from Catholics to immigrants.

  • Came here to recommend spelling bee as well, it's really great. I've binged the Australian version this week and still have NZ to go. BBC3 broadcasting the Australian version has me optimistic for a UK edition in the future.

  • This was a nice surprise, very quick off season this time

  • Loved how they ended this, that Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland duet has been stuck in my head all weekend. It's such a good comedy and I'm so glad they went into this planning a 5 season story and stuck to it.

It took me a second to even twig what was going on but I loved the fadeout from the Eiffel Tower on their Paris trip right back to the fake one in Vegas...and the callback to the first episode with Deborah chasing Ava down with the better punchline to the joke
