  • That is another factor, but not always true. If you print in a heat resistant filament that is also food safe (TBH I don't know of one, but it probably exists), and use it for solids, like fruit bowls, cookie jars, and the like, and is dishwasher safe. It should be fine. The problem is that most people will not make the entire production path food safe. Too much liability for manufacturers, even with food safe materials.

Many youtube 3D printing influencers actually recommend brain dead shit like drying filaments with undisclosed ingredients in ovens or microwaves where they will cook food, and stupid shit like that.

  • 10T. Banger of a phone.

Actually pretty repairable despite the glued back.

  • Indeed, you are missing something.

  • Indeed it is.

  • Thank God! I mean Greenland is only protected by NATO (which includes the US) right now.

Imagine if China, a neighboring country that is just halfway around the globe, or Russia, which is depleting it's mostly soviet era military at a demented speed, were to try to invade a NATO country.

  • I wonder if this will mean screwed split-half washing machine drums, for example.

One of the most common failure points in washing machines is the drum bearing. Nowadays almost all makes are using drums where the halves of the drum are plastic, welded together, where they used to be screwed together. The welds prevent opening the drum, and make bearing replacement basically impossible. The makes will sell you a replacement of the whole assembly, but it will often cost like 2/3 of a new machine. This means that a bearing failure often results in chucking a machine that used to be repaired for a cost under a 100 € if done professionally, or tens if DIY.

I imagine the "whole assembly" concept will be used as one of the loopholes.

  • Water resistance does not mean what people think. ISO 22810 says that a 3 bar (30m) water resistant is "Not suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkeling, water related work, fishing, and diving."

    30m. Not. Suitable. for. showering.

Also, most really waterproof watches, 100m+, have small circular metal cases with metal backs that are screwed shut against a gasket. Some, like G-Shocks, have a proportionally thick stainless steel backplate screwed down, but the plate is what? 3 cm. Diagonal?

Doing so on a thin rectangular device with a reasonable cost is near impossible, too much flex.

  • EU should take note.

Unless I'm in a huge hurry I'll wait in the cashier queue, to do my tiny bit to help preserve jobs.

  • That is actually fairly reasonable. I use a 5 yr old Xiaomi which a has 8Gb (as much as an entry level Surface or MacBook. Fuck AI) an octacore CPU, great camera, ultra fast charge, great battery etc. But I realize most people change phones every 2-3 years regardless of how well their phone works, because of "shiny new thing"

  • Do you seriously think they computerized cars to make them less repairable? That's some tin foil hat stuff there.

They started computerizing cars to make them more efficient, reliable (ironically), safer, etc. The problem is that beyond OBDII there is no standard for diagnostics, and makers keep these proprietary.

  • It can be, but is a hassle. There are food safe filaments, there are filaments that "should be" safe, like unmodified PETG, but the issue is to make all parts that are in contact with the filament food safe; extruder gears, Bowden tubes and other guides, hot ends, etc...

I imagine that it would be a hassle for parts suppliers to certify the bajillion variations of these parts as food safe.

  • I learnt a few years back that the most important driver in GPU. or any other non upgradable memory device obsolescence, is RAM. I got a banger of a deal a few years on a RX 480, but it was 4Gb, adequate at the time. The card was obsolete way faster than the 8GB. As for the power draw, are you planning to have your AI setup running 24/7? Nvtop (linux GPU monitoring app) reports 50-80% of the cards top power draw. There is also the fact that my data doesn't leave my setup.

  • In my country no politicisn, from sny side of the spectrum, especially the right, would even consider touching those benefits, as the older people can be very combative over their rights. Political suicide. Hopefully Trump will anger enough of his base with this.

  • It's like angle grinders. They can be incredibly dangerous, as in life threatening, especially with the wrong disk or used for the wrong purpose, but in the hands of a knowledgeable person, with protection, and with the appropriate disk, they are a pretty awesome and effective tool.

  • Aluminum can be highly reactive, gold is one of the leat reactive metals, so it should be pretty tasteless.

  • Vodka should be as pure an ethyl alcohol as possible. Flavorings make it less pure, and is akin to Gins. Look up the marketing masterpiece that is Grey Goose vodka. It's pretty much the same bullshit as premium Gins. Basically cheap clear alcohol with flavorings. Whiskys, Rums, Brandies on the other hand can have decades of maturing, making them way more expensive to produce.

  • The law says that Jamón Iberico de Bellota, free range acorn foraging, not fed, has to have a minimum of 19 acres per pig. Ibérico pigs are way more athletic and are not fattened, so their yield is way lower than white pigs. Curing is a minimum of 20 months in open air mountain curing buildings, etc..

You can easily pay 600-1000€ in Spain for a whole leg. 6Kg. aprox. and that includes the bones, skin, and other unusable parts. The price is not unjustified.

  • You don't want to arrest people on what people want, but what the law says.

  • I bought two RTX 3060 with 12 Gb each for a total of 24Gb VRAM. Sionce the cards are not top shelf anymore for gaming, they can be had used in the 200€ range, so my setup was 400€ over the cost of my existing PC. My PC, while not last gen was already pretty beefy, with a Ryzen 9 and 64 Gb RAM. I think 400€ to have a pretty good local AI setup is not bad at all.
