    Real subtle /s

  • As of Friday evening, more than 48,000 of the migrants had voluntarily returned to Morocco, Spanish officials said.

Seems like a pretty important detail to leave out of the headline

  • Using my advanced powers of media literacy I am hearing you say the article doesn't say what you just claimed it did and now you're mad about being caught in a lie

  • I don't think wasting time arguing over a question's wording instead of just diving into the actual substance of the issue like Larkin did would have looked good, and looking at the rest of that exchange it seems like the Fox people sure didn't like how it went for them,

Gallagher asked Larkin if he supports open borders.

“I don’t think there’s anything to fear with people seeking a better life in the United States of America,” Larkin answered before he noted his wife is the “proud daughter of a Nicaraguan immigrant.”

Larkin cited legislation by Jared Moskowitz, his opponent in the Congressional race, who was part of the effort that passed the Laken Riley Act, which requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to detain immigrants who have been accused of a crime. Riley was a 22-year-old student who was attacked and killed by José Antonio Ibarra, an undocumented immigrant.

The pair sparred verbally on the topic of immigration. “We need to keep our communities safe and we need to hold people accountable when they have harmed others, when they have broken the law but let’s be clear. Immigration is a civil violation, not a criminal violation,” Larkin said.

“So we need to stop treating the equivalent of a parking ticket like people are breaking the law and need a militarized police force breaking down their door,” he continued. “So the comparison here is not one of criminality. It is whether we are respecting international law, the right to asylum, the right of respecting refugees’ rights.”

Gallagher repeatedly attempted to engage Larkin on the topic of an acceptable number of “children who can be raped and it’s fine in relation to the immigration community.”

“If we’re going to talk about children being raped, then we need to hold this pedophile president Donald Trump accountable and all those that can implicate in the Epstein files that the Department of Justice is still not leaking and they’ve sent AIPAC after Thomas Massie—” Larkin began before Gallagher interjected, “Got it, thanks.”

“—for having the temerity to hold accountable the pedophiles that are in control of our government,” Larkin concluded.

“Thank you. We appreciate your time very much,” Gallagher said before the segment’s end.

  • If that was true why not quote the relevant section?

  • [Spain's prime minister] attributed the mass crossing to “human trafficking mafias” that had taken advantage of a decision by Spain’s supreme court, which recently ruled that those intercepted at sea while trying to enter Ceuta, or Spain’s other north African enclave of Melilla, could not be summarily returned under special rules.

    Also,

The Moroccan government is asking its citizens who have crossed the border to return home. Morocco’s ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, said at an embassy event Thursday that the situation in Ceuta was “not wanted by the Kingdom of Morocco,” adding that it would “prefer legal, orderly, and safe immigration for everyone.”

  • I couldn't make that argument to a trans person

  • " im not boomer humor! im not boomer humor!!" the barber insist as he slowly shrink and transform into a minion

  • "I just want to maintain the status quo and I will burn this whole place down to do it" vs "I want to fundamentally revolutionize our society, would you please sign my petition" seems to be a running theme of our times

  • The NYT is a transphobic, war crime excusing, bootlicking shit rag that just happens to have so many resources at their disposal that sometimes they can't help but accidentally do reporting so good that I have to upvote it in spite of those facts

  • Well, that shouldn't be how it works. Hoping to see the return of the rule of law to this country at some point in my lifetime.

  • Barry Goldwater said desegregation was a states rights issue while winking at the KKK as hard as he could

  • What did she say that you disagree with?

  • I'm holding on to the hope that DSA candidates winning more elections in the face of centrist nonsense will make moderates realize they're being self defeating by doing this kind of crap. A real working coalition of socialists and liberals could be a political juggernaut that could also create some good policies together.

  • A true and important point, but the message I takeaway from this one is

Failure: you will wonder if there was more you could have done

Success: you will wonder if there was more you could have done

  • Lol, one was vice president and the other was governor of the state, and you don't need to be in elected office to coordinate with violent shitheads employed by a US government, just ask the Republican who undermined Vietnam peace talks in 1968, or maybe the Republican who screwed around with Iranian hostage negotiations in 1979

  • Pretty easy to look like political geniuses when you're also having police murder and imprison a bunch of black voters and organizers at the same time, that's like saying knocking out your opponent with a sucker punch over the board makes you a chess grandmaster

  • I think it's because Newsom just wrote an autobiography where he talked about this woman and she responded with her side of the story
