    Repeated detailed efforts to help solve the objective disconnect between your stated intent and the actual text are finally dismissed with big-ass letters saying 'maybe my posts that confuse people are a problem with you.' And them. Y'know, the people confused, in every thread? The folks whose apparently-central reaction is, 'what the fuck I thought this was an editorial.' The kick people are getting is the unpleasant shock of figuring out you were trying to tell a joke.

    Good to know it's not for money, but that just makes the cocksure fumbling more confusing. Engagement bait purely for its own sake is not a better use of anyone's time.

    I can't help trying to fix this. "China draws new twenty-dash line around picture of globe." "China denounces western map borders for implying its authority has limits." "China renews claim to traditional imperial territory of Kansas." It's a PUNCHLINE, god dammit! There has to be a surprising contradiction, beyond the innate stupidity of the truth!

    This is a problem for nine out of ten headlines, from your site. Every thread has people going 'I almost ate it!' as if that red flag is the goal. It's like isGlitch rose from its shallow grave, pun intended, to confidently whiff on easy targets week after week. The headline is the part that matters the most - to where a good one doesn't even need an article - and this is the first response where you've broken the kayfabe of laughing off criticism.

    What is this site for? Is it just farming ad revenue? That's the vibe of saying 'well the thumbnail got your attention.' Clickbait is not derision, it's spam. Are you actually the isGlitch guy, still waiting to go 'ah-HA, it was an LLM all along!'? If you are genuinely trying to say something, to write comedy, to ridicule and denounce the horrors - you desperately need to focus your effort on first impressions.

Car phones are why there were networks available for this device to use.   • NDAs in general need to be thrown out. Even for their intended purpose - there's developers afraid to speak about projects from thirty years ago, at companies that no longer exist. There's artists who worked on cartoons that got shelved and have a three-year gap in their portfolio.

    It's already "fuck that" territory, just for spoiling the surprise of an entertainment product. When it comes to government business that should be aggressively open, or else - additional profanity abounds.

    The amount being used becomes negligible as the corpus grows. Filtering a billion webpages into one gigabyte means their average contribution is one byte. Play with the numbers all you like, it's gonna come out to less than a paragraph.

    If we went full copyright maximalist, and criminally banned using anything but public-domain / BSD / CC0 works, the commercial impact would not be much different. The technology itself shifts the economics of text, images, video, and code.

And they're not doing sexy vault heists for the last original manuscripts, they're just buying antiquarian junk by the ton, through a service that avoids giving them duplicates. If this process is a threat to the preservation of any particular work, it's probably because that work is undesired by anyone else in the world. Its eBay listing would end with zero bids. If it wasn't going from a warehouse to a scanner to the dump, it would likely go straight to the dump.

    If you want this process to aid in general preservation, maybe take aim at how Anthropic got fined over a billion dollars for infringement. That's their motivation for doing this - that's the kind of money they risk if they share all their super-rare scans. Of garbage.

    I have been drawing on computers for several decades, and I am a routine apologist for generated imagery, and I am telling you - it is immediately obvious this was generated. Stop squinting at it and just look at it.

    Last year some blog recreated GPT-2, the first LLM 'too dangerous to release!,' for twenty bucks. Corpus to model within the hour. The billions spent on research since then have let newer models of similar size benchmark a hair below the big-iron cutting edge.

    I recently found out Chroma, once a leading image model, was made by like two people, for presumably $200,000. Not nothing... but within reach of even small organizations. Recent pressure has been toward making models even smaller and less structured than that. Several updated video and editing models have quietly declined to release their weights, because they're small enough and powerful enough that most people would just run them locally. That desire, and that potential, will not vanish for wishful thinking.

    If models had to train on nothing but public-domain, BSD, and CC0 materials, they'd still work the same way. If the money dries up to-morrow, then what's possible with hobbyist research alone will continue. If even they hit a brick wall, barely past current capabilities, that's still a couple gigs of linear algebra that'll try and do anything you ask.

    Meanwhile - people will still make art. People make art even when it's illegal. Photography didn't stop anyone from drawing.
