  • Do non-English speakers learn to code in English, or in their native language?

  • much easier to look for guidance for coding in english instead of my native language, syntax makes more sense too. Though personally i would wish more stuff was properly translated into finnish instead of english slowly gnawing at it.

  • mine has started acting up quite badly,

    -from the start the internet has cut off randomly, likely due to driver issues or hardwareissue. Fixed only by complete restart. There seems to be no pattern, only that machine spirit gets angry if i use internet too much or sometimes just because i woke it up.

    -Sometimes when i start the pc it takes really long time to boot and just stays in black screen,

    -there are always kind of worrying error messages on startup and shutdown, something about rdseed being broken, something about data being lost, something about a thing hogging the processor and maybe switch to hq_unbound,

    -sometimes the pc just refuses to shutdown when shutdown and everything else goes offline but fans keep running.

    All of this has just slowly accumulated overtime, without me doing anything that should have caused it.

    Yet funnily enough, i'm STILL very much more satisfied than with windows that didnt have that much immidiate issues.

  • well, having a physical disk doesnt guarantee ownership. companies can still leave critical things off the disk and require you to download them when you install, or there can be some verification system. And if corporation servers go down, you still cant use it.

    What we need is all the files and data we buy to be fully functional and not behind any encryption or other gate, be it digital or physical. Then make your own physical media of it or back it up whereever you want.

  • look, i live in country with fortuitous lack of facists. or at least ones we have seem to keep mostly to themselves. I have never read anything regarding this from press or other source so that memory is pretty much only thing i have on the matter. it was black lives matter during ferguson protests that started using it, according to wikipedia.

    though i kind of agree that on this point its quite pointless word to use beyond shitty people self-identifying themselves by raving how woke everything is.

  • i remember there being some twitter trend around it, kind of like the "me too" movement too. I think that is what started the current usage of the word.

    Also, why would they invent such a word and not some more derogatory one? "Woke" has quite positive spin, being aware and stuff. The reason they use it as negative word is because its against everything they believe in. Woke people are literally a threat to them because they want to keep hating and abusing others. They want to keep doing the shit they are doing and anyone no indifferent to it is a problem.

    saying they invented it is more akin to propaganda and revisionist history to me because it takes something away from the word, makes it lesser.
