I like computers, trains, space, radio-related everything and a bunch of other tech related stuff. User of GNU+Linux.I am also dumb and worthless. My laptop is ThinkPad L390y running Arch.I own RTL-SDRv3 and RSP1 clone.

  • wayward kernel stuck between your teeth

If it at least were a Linux kernel.

  • I was just playing around with it, not worth it.Also, the domain would most likely cost more than the VPS, as the VPS was $10.29/year (not available anymore).

  • I don't know what I did wrong, but now it works with losetup. So that would be solved.

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

When you embed an image hosted on 3rd party site on Lemmy, you're trusting someone else not to change contents of your post/comment.

  • It's just that if I re-apply, they'll treat me as a new student all over again (and as such they only allow admission into the first year). Their own courses don't get any special treatment, aside from not requiring me to also send them syllabi for those.

This means failing in the 3rd year would be a disaster as I'd have to do the entire 3 years all over again. Or go to a different college. There's basically one for people who failed the college I went to (many such cases).

    Anyway, to sum it up:

    • For students during the current study, anything above F is accepted, whether you were previously kicked out or not.
    • From any previous studies, only A and B are accepted.
  • Your prior 1st school credits (below As and Bs) will still be at 1st school so you won’t have to worry about them being accepted as transfer credits because you’d not be transferring them in from outside as the those low grade credits are already inside.

That is what my post was about. The people at study department at 1st school told me they won't accept grades below B, including what I already earned at 1st school. They just won't count when I go there again, it's treated the same as transfer. In case of 2nd school, basically any other college would most likely accept any lower passing grades.

Any chance you have enough IT experience to get a junior role so you can at least be growing in your field while you’re out of school?

    That would be no, unfortunately.

  • different courses

The point is, they won't even accept the courses I already passed (which are all below B except for English), because this rule is just applied universally. So it would be easier to re-take what I had until now since I already know something. In this case, idea 2 would probably make more sense since I also know the instructors tend to give out the same assignments between different years.

Unless you meant to attend an easier college with the required courses. But also it is too late. The only colleges taking students at this time of year are ones that have to do 2nd rounds due to low numbers, which very much is nothing IT-related.

Anyway, bigger issue is I'd have to pay for 2 extra years (they also don't allow admission into a higher year).

every other school your original school accepts transfer credits from

That one is also funny. There's no official list. The only requirement is A/B grade. If that is met, I can send a request to have those results accepted along with the courses' syllabi, and then I'll see based on their response.

  • Rant @lemmy.sdf.org

I was kicked out of University, the college I went to (and wish to return to) only accepts grades A and B for credit transfer, including from themselves.

  • in only 5 billion years our sun will expand and engulf all the inner planets including the Earth

    Somehow, this scares me.

  • Linux @programming.dev

Weird setup: Proxmox VE on laptop with KDE Plasma desktop and windows from guests connected using Waypipe (GUI programs can seamlessly run in their own VMs)

  • Rant @lemmy.sdf.org

There's so much interesting Chinese electronics (especially smartphones) that only seem to be half finished (untested) products.

  • Eh, I guess RX-only drugs make sense if they work. After all, you're basically taking them under doctor's supervision.

I used to take some meds for ADHD when I was a kid, but whatever it was (I think Concerta), all it did was make me sleepy.Fun fact: Some commonly used drugs (in US) like Adderall are actually illegal here around Europe.

  • Rant @lemmy.sdf.org

I can't get anything done. Either I get overwhelmed, distracted by absolutely anything, or suddenly loose interest in everything. The only thing that helps is fear from approaching deadline.

  • Where I live, self checkout is usually behind a gate as well, where you have to scan your ticket for it to open.

  • Pretending it's a fictional scenario, asking the question in tech-oriented spaces such as Lemmy and Mastodon, then using some of the answers.

  • Fuck AI @lemmy.world

F-Droid should have "AI" as anti-feature tag (a quick look at NFC Archiver app)

  • I guess it should just be set to master since it's the only drive, but I tried all 3.I just tried to use it to make a copy of CD, all seems fine. Maybe it can't handle the maximum read speed, but meh, it seems to work hardware-wise.Software-wise, Windows-only.

  • IDE CD-ROM

Yeah. I have 2, so I want to use them. The dangerous thingy is an IDE to SATA adapter. If I manage to find DVD-RW drive with front audio and a play button, I'd like to use that in an external 5.25" drive enclosure I have. The goal: External DVD drive that can also work as a simple standalone CD player.

All I have now is 2 CD-RW drives like that. And one of them (BENQ 4816A) doesn't seem to work with Linux for some reason.Sample from dmesg:

Just keeps resetting, eventually spams a lot of errors, then goes on to start resetting again.

VLC manages to use it for audio playback. Sort of. It can load CD info, play a track, and skip within the track. But when trying to play a different track, it again resets the drive, so it has to load the disc again, causing ~15 second gaps between tracks.

Both digital (on PC) and analog (on drive) audio playback worked just fine on Windows 2000 after passing the USB to VirtualBox.

  • The world sucks right now for employment you might as well take a shot at a dream job because you never know what happens!

Well, I absolutely could get training for position of train driver.Except...As far as I know, you have to agree to a contract to work for that company for at least 5 years.Otherwise, I'd have to pay them back for that training. How much?I don't know what it's now. First I heard from someone, they mentioned it being EUR 21,000. But recently I overheard a train driver talking to a coworker about the training costing EUR 31,000.Either way, in a country where the minimum wage is EUR 5.26/h... OOF.

Although I'd have to ask for official information, as this isn't mentioned in the advertising they do.But it would explain the eternal shortage they seem to have.

  • Sorry if I wasn't clear, I am not. I am just usually imagining what happens in edge cases. Since I am in an English study programme (I honestly find English easier in relation to IT) I get the same information the foreign students do.And I can see how fucking shitty it is.The problem is they didn't even translate the instructions to English, and further only gave them a 12 hour window until the deadline to figure things out. Ironically, the instructions highlight to really think about the decisions you make with the subjects selected (some expect prior knowledge you may not yet have). Think about it when? There's also limited number of students to be accepted for each subject on a first-come first-served basis. Basically, a game of battle royale, but there were no instructions, and the game has already begun.
