  • Well, it would have been lots better if you were clearer on that. "3rd world shithole" can be for a wide variety of things, we are sorry to have to say.

    And even then, they are not functionally the same things. Countries persecute people for lots more reasons than simply "we are jealous they are good persons". Heck, Snowden comes to mind.

  • It's not necessary for any country to isue a statement that the US is a 3rd world shithole (much as that would be welcome) to provide asylum. Only to provide a statement that the person specifically requesting is in danger would they be forced to return.

  • This is a very common complaint, and the main reason is that it’s way more complicated than it sounds. The duress feature is designed to immediately erase any chance to recover the unencrypted data from the phone by destroying part of the data used to derive the decryption keys

    Sure, but IIRC that does not help if the attacker can retain the device or clone it, yes? Once they have a copy of the raw data they can just throw a datacenter at it, for any future amount of time.

    Everything works correctly (starting, shutting down under openrc / under sysvinit / manually / with killall)... except specifically systemd.

  • Oh no, I solved the problem: I uninstalled systemd. It's systemd who is ignoring things, such as the longstanding history of Unix and Linux (research what happened between systemd and screen, tmux, dtach).

  • That can hit any time, not just in shutdown. At bootup, when suspending, etc. This message and the wait time is so bad. Systemd basically implemented Windows Update waitouts on Linux! It's incredible!

    Switching from systemd to sysvinit solved that pretty nicely.

  • Not more than a month. Must have been in the 15-25 days range.

    I'd say it worked mostly well for the Subscribed view. The problem is there is no way (that I could find) to set it as default for Subscribed while leaving the others to other settings (eg.: Local on New, All on Popular).
