  • Some infections give me the best possible sleep. It feels like ...

  • 60 minutes for a task? That might be the main deterrent! You have to try to break up such tasks, when possible. Such as: 1. getting everything ready to start, 2. do the first 5 Minutes. Not always possible, e. g. picking up furniture.

  • Just make Lapacho tea according to instructions. Over the day, it seems to start working well when covering about 40 % of your water intake with it, but I do 90 % sometimes.

  • Big problem for many of us.

A few things that helped me, not to a complete cure, but a massive improvement nonetheless:

    • When I realise that I should stop, instead set a 5 or 10 minute timer and stop when it goes off.
    • I have a front desk bell that the "good" part of my mind presses when it catches the "bad" part doing this again.
    • Start an inner dialogue, e. g. like: "What do I gain from this? Why am I doing this?" Don't consider it implicit pressure to stop, just an open, honest dialogue. The goal is not to stop right away, but to keep learning about yourself for a couple of weeks while you still do it. But for some people, they feel caught by themselves in the action and might stop right away; that is also okay.
    • Make a deal with yourself to do something productive, and then continue the thing guilt-free. That feels much sweeter! The productive thing can be as little as to write a list, or to think about the tasks on the existing list and what it would feel like to do them.
    • Technical solution, such as Leechblock NG browser plugin to limit usage of some websites. Could have a time limit, or time of day limit, and can do a hard block or "soft" block by going black/white.
  • But the biggest game changer for me was a light alarm clock. Combine with a super-loud one far away (or good old vacuum cleaner on a timer!) in such a way that I can barely make it on time, so just a last resort.

  • It was so long ago, the link in my Amazon order from back then is dead now.

  • Yes, I need that at home as well. The two component glue I had was great for this, but I like to be prepared in terms of repairs, and often epoxy is the only option.

  • Interesting that modafinil shows no clear dose-effect pattern. When I tried it, I took 1/4 of a pill, and that was always enough. The nice thing about it is that it's easier to get than stims in many countries. I used the effect of mine to set up diagnostic and prescription of something better in the first place.

  • Thanks! I was not aware of this mechanism regarding quinones and how taking more might affect neuro transmitters.

My own theory was based around minor inflammation - not severe enough to be obvious in a blood sample or call a doctor to action, but living in a permanent state of "heck" rather than hell.

As for running more tests, that's one of the reasons why I'm back on the theory: I've had a different tea for weeks, and the switch back to lapacho was "random" in the sense that a shipment didn't come and I stumbled upon the old pack of lapacho on the shelf as a replacement. So the amount of warm liquids stayed the same, and the days were "randomised" in a way.

Why don't studies pick it up? I suspect it might be a niche condition, combination of a few specific minor issues which benefits so greatly. So in a scientific randomised study, those 1% also benefit greatly, like I did, but it would not be statistically significant. They'd need a MASSIVE amount of participants with a control group to notice in the numbers that 1% more report severe improvement than in the placebo group. Impossible that everybody with ADHD will benefit like I did; they'd have found that long ago. Maybe some kind of subgroup of ADHD+gut+mildly autistic.

Also, science is not that interested in it after they made "cure for cancer" claims which turned out to be completely false.

  • Some sites claim it does contain trace amounts of that, but I can't find a reputable, scientific source. Even weak stimulants, like a cup of black tea, do help a bit, but it's magnitudes less than what lapacho appears to do for me.

Edit: A general pattern with stimulants though is that weak & long lasting works best for me. Especially guarana > coffee. It would fit.

  • earthy and vanilla, rather good

  • ADHD @lemmy.world

Lapacho should not help - but sure now it does

  • If your distractions are all in the browser, Leechblock is pretty good. It can specify a time when to block a list of sites or URL patterns, or limit time per session and refresh every X hours. It can "soft-block" by making it black&white, or hard-block.

  • Me neither, but I love it - like an old Amish grandma watching American Wrestling.

  • That is the way to go. I used a different 2 component glue, and it holds perfectly. Nothing else worked.

Only if there is a real gap that needs to be filled, rather than two perfectly fitting surfaces, gradually filling it with a 2 component glue like this might work better: https://hgpowerglue.com/collections/bestseller/products/schweissnaht-aus-der-flasche-regular

Tried with UV hardening glue first, but the problem was that it "slipped" from the material, so the glue piece came off as a whole. I should have used sandpaper on all surfaces first.

  • I had the exact same problem and tried that first, but it did not work in my case: There was a strong pull on it, and the surfaces did not fit perfectly.

If the surfaces fit perfectly, OP can try. Superglue (most / some types) can be removed later from the glasses, but of course, no harm avoiding that in the first place.

  • Sometimes, it's worse for me: When I get the motivation kick at night, I think: Well, no point doing it NOW, it's time to sleep soon. Then I dance and smile through the dopamine rush, imagining all the things I'll do tomorrow.

  • Thanks! I realise just now how utterly hopeless it would have been without meds to get things done. Never stood a chance back then. Back in the day, I would have tried to wing it without list, and thought like: "Nice, all week off. Just these two letters and the email and the obvious stuff."

Then I would have procrastinated on that, and all the forgotten extra things would have hit me randomly like a micro adrenaline shocks.

  • Yes, how much is for the kid? I'd say about 80%, including most of the household.
