  • Honestly I would interpret the visions as "these are the reasons why you're not gonna get that chicken farm, Helaena":

    1. The baby will be a boy and Rhaenyra will be forced to at least take it away, like Alicent said

    2. The throne needs to be destroyed

    3. Avoiding her fate would lead to the destruction of the world by the White Walkers

  • Tie it to politician's salaries. Every time politicians vote to increase their own pay, minimum wage goes up by the same percentage.

  • Why was the benefit hindsight needed for that particular revelation

  • I'm Irish and we're delighted with the Euro.

  • Ask the Germans; they probably already have words for all these

  • The others that don’t use it haven’t met the conditions to join but are working towards it.

Lolwut no they're not. Not all of them, anyway. Romania might be, but Sweden and Poland certainly aren't working towards it, and there have been leadership changes in Hungary but they weren't working towards it under Orbán. Czechia's a bit of a question mark.

  • I wonder will there be many more opt-outs. Having seen how much the EU has benefitted Europe and allowed us to defend our regional interests through (admittedly imperfect) solidarity, I'd certainly like to see ECOWAS sow and reap the same rewards, and maybe my analysis is overly simplistic, but I'd guess that a single currency is a significant part of that recipe.

  • Perhaps, but the Malian government which these paramilitaries have been contracted to work for has been dealing with startlingly effective rebels, so they can't afford to hand them this kind of easy propaganda.

  • As a fan of Diogenes, I feel obliged to point out that Cynicism is not the same as pessimism. Cynicism is the philosophical belief that society/civilization was a mistake and that humans would be best advised to follow the example of dogs, who are (generally) innately happy creatures who don't worry about pointless abstract things like real estate ownership and licensing agreements.

  • But your (our?) generation won't outnumber young people if young people keep immigrating. Not that "keep foisting the burden of perpetual growth on the young" is ACTUALLY a good plan, but it's exactly the kind of selfish arch-capitalist thinking that they'd be all in favor of if it was white young people.

  • Homicide means that the law considers it to be somebody's fault.

  • It's not that they're afraid of society collapsing. They clearly don't care about that, as most of what they do ignores that.

What they're worried about is the "Great Replacement", where white people become a minority. If that wasn't what they were really afraid of, then they would consider the problem of declining birth rates to be easily solvable with immigration.

  • It's not even about efficiency. I suspect that this is easier on her back, because she doesn't have to keep pace with someone who doesn't coordinate with her and who makes sudden, unexpected moves that cause her to wrench her back. As someone who has lifted a lot of heavy things in his life, I always find it easier and less painful to move something on my own whenever possible.

  • Telling your employees that they might soon have options for who to work for? It's a bold strategy, Cotton...

  • I think the number thirty is being blamed, not because your life is actually "over" when you turn thirty, but because that TENDS to be roughly the age most people start having kids, and having kids certainly DOES cause major changes in lifestyle.

  • You should get that taken care of. An occasional twinge now and then is normal, but constant pain? In your thirties? That ain't standard. In your forties, I could believe - although it still wouldn't be standard. But your back should still be in relatively good nick in your thirties, unless you lift heavy things for a living. In your thirties a backache should be nothing a good night's sleep, a nice stretch, and a long leisurely walk can't fix.

Unless... you DO lift with your knees, right? When you need to lift something? And keep your back straight and chin up while doing so? People don't constantly say to do that just for shits and giggles - it's universally good advice.
