    Truxton Extreme is not only an outstanding shmup, but it also sets a new benchmark for how to bring back cult series of the genre into the current age. Very high marks on graphical effects, sound design, and soundtrack along with spot-on gameplay makes it easy to recommend adding this one to your Switch 2 library as soon as possible. Both veteran shmup players and newcomers alike will find much to enjoy in this package. 9/10

    I would have paid for a new 2D Truxton, but I guess when you're owned by Embracer you have to lean into modernity.

    This isn't on my wishlist, but I'm happy to see the franchise continue.

  • Too bad for the overtime. Slow week here, luckily not near any of the fires. Played a bit of Viral Reload EX.

  • Played for 1.5 hours on Switch. Cannot get past level 3 on story mode (skill issue, not an issue with the game).

    (Edit: took me a long-ass time to get past level 3... Like nearly 3 hours)

    This is a wave-based shooter à la Galaga/Space Invaders. If you get hit, the wave starts over. The order of the waves varies too. Very arcade-y.

    Everything works well, little things to unlock (e.g. music tracks, boss rush), boss practice mode (thank you!), some humour in the story mode, cool music and pixel art.

    Definitely worth the full price.

  • No smoke here, just heat, but we're starting to cool down after heat wave round 3. Round 4 might be on its way but opinions and analysis can't seem to agree.

    R-Type takes some serious memo indeed. I can do the first two levels, the Warship is 50:50, stage 4 can go to hell. Even credit feeding that game to the end is satisfying.

    Went back to another game that didn't click we me and realized that the issue was skill. Danmaku Unlimited 3 didn't hit any notes with me the first time I tried, but now I get it and everything feels less frantic. Awesome little game. I didn't even know there were things to unlock or different modes. I had only played it for about 30 minutes and shelved it. I think I put in about 10 hours this week.
